The NMES: Asmara's Peace Accord is Beneath the Ambitions of The Peoples of Eastern Sudan
In an assessment of the recent Asmara's Peace Accord between the Sudanese Government and the Front of Eastern Sudan Mr. Amin Mohamed Tahir, the NMES's member of the Higher Council of Leadership and Secretary of Political & Organizational Affairs, expressed his dissatisfaction with the accord in question, pointing out that it was only a partial agreement that has marginalized major social and political organizations in the East of The Sudan who were not included in the negotiations. Mr. Amin warned, in this context, that such marginalization and exclusion could eventually lead to a situation that is similar to what is currently happening in Darfur, particularly if some, or even all, of such organizations are, finally and despairingly, forced to take arms against the Khartoum regime. "The Asmara Accord has achieved some limited objectives in relation to the questions of power and wealth", the NMES's leader continued, "we do not deny that. But we only assert that it is still far from resembling anything like a comprehensive solution to the crucial issues that had, in the first place, led to the both of the violent and civil struggle against the Khartoum's regime".
Mr. Amin finished his statement by saying that the limitedness of the scope of the Asmara Accord did not surprise us, for it only re-enhances the old image of the Khartoum regime which continuously had depicted it- and is still depicting it- as a partner that was- and is- ever jittery, sly and not quite worth of any solid trust, something which, Mr. Amin emphasizes, eventually turns all of the possible means of struggling against it open options to the NMES. |
