The National Movement for the Eastern Sudan Condemns the Israeli aggression & Calls the Sudanese Government to account for its national responsibilities ..
London – NMES 30/3/2009
The Secretary-General of the National Movement for the Eastern Sudan, Mr. Tarik Abubakr, warned that Israeli air strikes perpetuated against Eastern Sudan were a serious event and a threat to the national security of the territories of the east and calls the Sudanese Government to dissociate itself from the venture of smuggling arms on to the Egyptian border.
Mr. Abubakr pointed out that The Israeli raids- which are still continuing and targeting arms’ conveys heading to the Egyptian Borders- are contributing to making Eastern Sudan a battlefield for conflicting powers the scapegoat of which were- and are- mainly the ordinary people of Eastern Sudan of whom many absurdly lost their lives due to raids.
He added that this principally serves the ruling Sudanese National Congress party’s agendas which, strategically and nonchalantly, involve murdering and displacing many of the Eastern Sudan’s peoples for the benefit of a minority that is ruling in Khartoum. Mr. Tarik said, in this context, that the State Minister for Transport, has misleadingly justified the attacks by mentioning that they were targeting trafficking refugees from countries neighboring Sudan, exaggerating the victims’ numbering to 800 persons. That is, Mr. Tarik explained, was only a part of an informational deception strategy with which the Ruling Party desperately aims at drawing attention away from advanced venture of arms trafficking into the Egyptian Borders and beyond in a misguided attempt to win sympathy and support of the Arabic & Islamic world.
Mr. Abubakr said that after succeeding in igniting strife in Darfur, which necessitated the intervention of the international community and the historical decision of the ICC, the Sudanese government is now venturing into turning Eastern Sudan into a hot plane for damaging regional conflicts, something which, he added, the NMES have repeatedly warned about via pointing out, particularly to the Sudanese Government, that the East of Sudan is the backbone of the Sudan, and that any infringement of its security and stability will, in future, lead to irreversible consequences.
The General Secretary of the National Movement for Eastern Sudan finally calls the people of Eastern Sudan to promote a new national security initiative and thus provide no further opportunities for the government to tamper of the eastern region’s security and resources, urging them to intercept any convoys that are carrying any weapons and seize them so as to maintain safety and border control in the whole area and thus working for save-guarding the people and the land from any harmful regional conflicts or interventions.
